What is quad dominance?

Quad dominance is a muscular imbalance in which the quadriceps provides more force during squatting than the hamstrings and hips. If your first movement is to bend at the knees or if your knees excessively move past your toes wile squatting, chances are you are quad dominant.

Why does quad dominance occur?

Quad dominance is caused by underused glutes and hamstrings. This could be the product of poor mechanics or a bad workout program that created muscular imbalance. Ideally, the quads, glutes and hamstrings will equally carry the load and not rely too heavily on one or the other during squatting.

Why is quad dominance a problem?

Quad dominant lifting can lead to hip, knee and low back pain and lower body injury.
